Port information
- Quays: one passenger quay with 13 ramps for conventional ferries and car ferries and 2 for high-speed vessels. You can walk from the entrance to the ships.
- From Athens by KTEL bus: departures from Pedion tou Areos (Mavromateon Street) and from Nomismatokopeio metro station. The journey takes about 1–1.5 hours depending on traffic, with buses running every 15 minutes to once an hour.
- From the airport: KTEL buses roughly every hour from the arrivals level, taking about 30 minutes. A taxi takes 20–30 minutes.
- By car: along Marathonos Avenue (the continuation of Mesogeion Avenue) or by leaving the Attiki Odos motorway towards Rafina. The distance from central Athens is about 30 km.
- Parking: parking inside the port is not allowed. There is a paid municipal car park about a 3-minute walk from the quays, plus private car parks (one of them about 50 m from the port). In August, go early.
- Arrival time: if you are travelling with a car or motorbike, arrive at least 60–90 minutes before departure. Foot passengers need only 30–45 minutes.
- Facilities: cafés and grill restaurants on the seafront next to the quays, so you can wait for your ferry without going far.
Ferries from Rafina in 2026: what suits you best
Rafina is about 30 km from central Athens, roughly 45 minutes by car, and it is closer to Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos) than Piraeus is. That makes it a popular choice for travellers arriving by plane and for anyone heading to the north-western Cyclades. From here you can reach Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Ios and Santorini. The Mykonos to Rafina route is one of the most common for the journey back.
The operators on this route are Golden Star Ferries, SeaJets, Fast Ferries and Hellenic Seaways. The prices and availability in the tables on this page change depending on the date and the type of seat or cabin. Not every company runs every route all year round, so check the day you want to travel.
Which island and which ferry to choose
Andros: the closest island
Andros is the shortest crossing from Rafina. High-speed vessels take about 1 hour, while conventional ferries and high-speed boats with extra stops take around 2 hours. If you're going for a weekend, the morning departures (around 07:30–07:50) and the afternoon ones (16:30–17:30) are usually the most popular.
Tinos and Mykonos
To Tinos, a fast boat takes about 2 hours. Ferries that call at Andros first take 3.5 to 4 hours. For Mykonos the difference is even bigger: depending on the vessel and the stops, the crossing ranges from just over 2 hours to about 4.5 hours. The same ticket price can mean a very different journey time, so check the duration before you pay.
Paros, Naxos, Ios and Santorini
These routes are longer and often call at other islands along the way. For Ios and Santorini, Rafina mainly makes sense when there is a suitable sailing on your day or when you are travelling straight from the airport. Otherwise, compare with Piraeus, which has more connections and more frequent sailings to the southern islands.
When to book
- July–August and the 15 August holiday weekend: book your tickets, and a vehicle space if you need one, as early as possible. Car spaces sell out first.
- June and September: 1–2 weeks ahead is usually enough, except for Fridays and Sundays.
- Autumn and winter: there are fewer sailings. Many ships stop running for a few days for maintenance or are withdrawn from the route altogether, so schedules can change at short notice. Book once you have confirmed that the sailing is running.
How to get to the port
If you're driving or riding, take Marathonos Avenue or leave the Attiki Odos motorway towards Rafina. By public transport, KTEL Attikis buses leave from Pedion tou Areos (Areos Park) and from Nomismatokopeio metro station. From the airport there is a KTEL bus roughly every hour, taking about 30 minutes. A taxi from the airport takes around 20–30 minutes. At the port, the ferries are within easy walking distance of the entrance.
Tips before you travel
- Allow extra time to get to the port: traffic on Marathonos Avenue on summer weekends can slow you down.
- Check which quay your ferry leaves from and which company operates it. Rafina has many ramps and several ships depart together in the morning.
- If you're taking a car, ask yourself whether you really need one on the island. It is useful on Tinos and Andros, but parking in Mykonos is difficult in summer.
- For islands reached via combined routes, check whether the ferry stops at Andros and Tinos before reaching your destination.
- The Rafina to Marmari (Evia) service is run by a different company and has its own timetable.
Arriving back at Rafina
When you return from Mykonos or another island, you arrive at the same port, and the KTEL bus stop is close to the quays. If you have a flight the same evening, leave plenty of time after the ferry's scheduled arrival, as delays can affect the bus you plan to take.
