The questions we are asked most often about Greek ferry tickets and travelling by ferry. For a specific island, see that island's or route's page.
Questions & answers
Does Ferryfast issue ferry tickets?
No. Ferryfast compares routes and prices. Booking and payment take place on the page of our certified booking partner, which issues the ticket on behalf of the ferry company.
Do I pay more if I book through Ferryfast?
No. The price you see is the booking partner's price. If you complete a booking, Ferryfast may receive a small commission from the partner at no extra cost to you.
How far ahead can I book Greek ferries?
Usually 3 to 6 months before departure. Summer schedules are typically announced in winter, and extra sailings can be added a few weeks before.
When should I book for July and August?
As early as possible and at least 3–4 weeks ahead. The cheapest seats, cabins and vehicle spaces sell out first, especially at weekends and around 15 August.
What is the difference between a conventional ferry and a high-speed boat?
Conventional ferries are usually cheaper, steadier in strong wind and carry cars. High-speed boats are faster but cost more, and some have no garage.
Can I take my car or motorbike?
Yes, on most conventional ferries and many high-speed boats. You declare the vehicle type and plate when booking and need to be at the port at least 60 minutes before departure.
Are pets allowed?
Yes on most ferries, in dedicated areas, in a carrier or in pet-friendly cabins. Rules differ by company, so declare your pet when booking and carry its health booklet or passport.
Are there discounted fares?
Yes, for children, students, large families, people with disabilities and island residents, plus early-booking offers. Age limits and documents differ by company, and proof is checked at boarding.
Do I need to print my ticket?
On most routes an e-ticket or mobile boarding pass is enough. Some companies or routes require you to collect a boarding pass at the port — your confirmation email says what applies to your booking.
How early should I be at the port?
At least 30 minutes before departure without a vehicle and 60 minutes with one. In August and at the big ports (Piraeus, Rafina) allow extra time.
How do I change or cancel my ticket?
Through the booking partner you booked with — the link and contact details are in your confirmation email. Change and cancellation fees depend on each ferry company and fare.
What happens if my sailing is cancelled because of the weather?
The ferry company or booking partner will inform you. Under Regulation (EU) No 1177/2010 on passenger rights, when a sailing is cancelled you can choose re-routing on another sailing or a refund of the fare.
