Port information

  • Location: the port is in Skiathos Town, right next to the centre. You can walk to many accommodations in a few minutes.
  • Old Port: to the west of the town, with Bourtzi splitting the bay. It's a good spot for a stroll and something to eat after you arrive.
  • Buses: the local bus terminus is close to the port and serves the island's beaches and the Evangelistria Monastery.
  • Taxis: there are taxis in town for getting to your accommodation and to the airport, which is about 10 minutes away.
  • Parking: don't count on a specific car park near the port. If you're arriving with a vehicle, ask your accommodation about parking before you get there.
  • Check-in: arrive at the port at least 30–45 minutes before departure. If you have a vehicle, allow more time and check the time printed on your ticket.
  • Information: for delays and weather cancellations, contact the ferry company or the port authority.

How to get to Skiathos by ferry

Skiathos is the first island of the Sporades when you travel from mainland Greece. This page shows two routes to the island: Volos – Skiathos and Agios Konstantinos – Skiathos. Tickets start from around €37 per passenger, with Seajets. That price is for the cheapest option available. On the Volos route, passenger fares go up to around €48, depending on the ship, the day and availability.

From Volos: the main option

Volos has the most sailings and runs all year round. In summer there are up to 4 departures a day, while in winter sailings are less frequent and run on different days. As well as Seajets, Aegean Flying Dolphins and Mantoudi Lines usually operate on this route too. Which companies appear on a given day depends on the timetable for that period.

Journey time depends on the type of vessel:

  • High-speed ferries / flying dolphins: about 1 hour 20–25 minutes. These are passenger-only, with no vehicles.
  • Conventional ferries: about 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes.

If you want to take a car or motorbike, you need a conventional ferry with a car deck. As a rough guide, a car costs around €85 and a motorbike around €21. The price varies by sailing and vehicle size, so check it before you pay.

From Agios Konstantinos: for travellers coming from Athens

Agios Konstantinos is about 1 hour 45 minutes from Athens by road, roughly half the driving time to Volos. In some booking systems the route appears as inactive or seasonal only, and there are only a few sailings a week from Skiathos to Agios Konstantinos. The crossing takes from around 2 hours by high-speed ferry to 3 hours or more, depending on the vessel. If you're starting from Athens, first check whether there is a sailing on the days you want. If there isn't, Volos is the safe alternative.

Which ferry should you choose?

  • Short on time or travelling with children: the high-speed ferry saves about an hour, which helps especially if you're making an early start.
  • Travelling with a car: take a conventional ferry with a car deck. That said, you don't really need a car on Skiathos: the area around the port is walkable, and the well-known beaches are served by bus and taxi.
  • Want the lowest fare: look at morning conventional sailings and days other than Friday and Sunday. The cheapest fares are the first to sell out at peak times.
  • Unsettled weather: high-speed ferries are more easily affected by wind. If you have a morning crossing before a flight or another connection, allow a buffer.

When to book for 2027

Timetables for each season are released gradually, and companies often adjust them. If you can't see any sailings for your date yet, it doesn't mean there won't be any. Check again in a few weeks. As a general guide:

  • July–August and public holiday weekends: book as early as you can, especially if you're travelling with a vehicle. The car deck fills up before passenger seats do.
  • May–June and September: there is usually availability even a few weeks ahead, with more sailings than in winter.
  • Winter: there are fewer sailings, and a cancelled departure could leave you with no other option that day. Choose an early departure.

Practical tips for arriving and staying

Skiathos port is right next to Skiathos Town, so most accommodation in the centre is a few minutes' walk away. The Old Port and Bourtzi, the small, wooded peninsula that splits the bay in two, are an easy place for a first stroll. Routes to the beaches also start from here.

If you're continuing to Skopelos or Alonissos, check the inter-island sailings in advance. They don't run every day and don't always connect with your arrival time.

Tips before you pay

  • Check the departure port: on the way back from Skiathos, the fare and journey time are often different.
  • Book your return on a different sailing from your flight if you're flying the same evening. Choose a morning ferry rather than the last one of the day.
  • Always check the check-in time on your ticket: for vehicles it is usually earlier than for passengers.
  • Prices change with availability, so compare two or three dates before you book.
